God’s Promises: 20 Biblical Promises to Strengthen Your Faith and Hope

God's promises are some of the most encouraging truths in the Bible. They remind us that God is faithful, He keeps His Word, and we can trust Him even when life is difficult. 🙏❤️

Here are some of the most important promises of God, organized by what you may be going through.

How to Pray When You Are Afraid: Finding God’s Peace & Courage

🙏 How to Pray When You Are Afraid

Fear can make your heart race, your thoughts run in circles, and your mind imagine everything that could go wrong. Sometimes fear can become so overwhelming that you don't even know what to pray.

But you don't have to face fear alone.

The Bible repeatedly reminds us that God is with us in the middle of our fear. Prayer gives us a way to turn our attention from what frightens us toward the God who is greater than what we are facing.

When you're afraid, you don't have to pretend you're not scared.

You can simply come to God and say:

“Lord, I'm afraid. Please help me.”

And begin there.  My ETSY Store Faith Merch

❤️ 1. Tell God Exactly What You're Afraid Of

Don't hide your fear from God.

Tell Him what is troubling you.

You can pray:

“Father, I'm afraid of what might happen.”

“Lord, I'm worried about my family.”

“God, I'm afraid of the future.”

“Lord, I don't know how I'm going to get through this.”

God already knows what you're thinking, but bringing your fears to Him through prayer helps you surrender them instead of carrying them alone.

🕊️ 2. Ask God to Give You Courage

Being courageous doesn't mean you never feel afraid.

Courage means trusting God even when you are afraid.

Deuteronomy 31:8 says:

“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee…”

When you're afraid, ask God to help you move forward instead of allowing fear to control your decisions.

Pray:

“Lord, I am afraid, but I don't want fear to control me. Give me courage to do what is right and help me trust You with what I cannot control.”

🌿 3. Remember That God Is With You

One of the most important truths to remember when you're afraid is:

You are not alone.

Isaiah 41:10 says:

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God…”

When fear tells you, “You're on your own,” God's Word reminds you, “I am with thee.”

Turn that truth into a prayer:

“Father, remind me that You are with me right now. Help me remember that I don't have to face this situation by myself.”

📖 4. Pray Scripture When Fear Takes Over

When fear becomes overwhelming, open your Bible and pray God's promises.

Some excellent chapters and verses for fear include:

Psalm 23 — God is your Shepherd.  Psalm 23

Psalm 27 — Trusting God when you're afraid.

Psalm 34 — God hears and delivers those who cry out to Him.

Psalm 46 — God is your refuge and strength.

Psalm 56:3 — “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”

Psalm 91 — God's protection and refuge.

Isaiah 41:10 — God promises His presence and strength.

2 Timothy 1:7 — God has not given us the spirit of fear.

Instead of simply reading the verse, turn it into a personal prayer.

For example:

“Lord, when I am afraid, help me trust in You.”

🙏 5. Ask God for Peace

Fear can cause your mind to focus on everything that could go wrong.

Ask God to quiet your heart.

Philippians 4:6-7 teaches us to bring our requests to God through prayer and thanksgiving and tells us that God's peace can guard our hearts and minds.  Philippians 4

Pray:

“Lord, my mind is filled with fear. Please replace my fear with Your peace. Help me stop worrying about things I cannot control and trust You with them.”

God's peace doesn't necessarily mean the situation changes immediately.

Sometimes God gives you peace while you're still waiting for the answer.

🌊 6. Give God the “What Ifs”

Fear often begins with:

What if…?

What if something goes wrong?

What if I lose something?

What if someone gets hurt?

What if the situation doesn't work out?

What if my future doesn't go the way I planned?

When those thoughts come, turn them into prayer.

“Lord, I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but You do. I give You every ‘what if’ that is frightening me. Help me trust You with tomorrow.”

You don't have to solve tomorrow today.

God will give you what you need for today.

🌿 7. Pray for Protection

If you're afraid for yourself or someone you love, you can ask God for protection.

Psalm 91 is especially comforting when you're seeking God's protection.

Pray:

“Father, please watch over me and those I love. Protect us and guide us. Give us wisdom and help us make decisions that are safe and pleasing to You.”

Remember that praying for protection isn't about living in constant fear of what might happen.

It's about placing yourself and the people you love into God's hands.  Amazon Bible Journals

❤️ 8. Thank God Even While You're Afraid

You don't have to wait until your fear disappears before you thank God.

You can thank Him while you're still waiting.

“Lord, thank You for being with me.”

“Thank You for hearing my prayer.”

“Thank You that I can come to You.”

“Thank You for Your faithfulness.”

“Thank You that You are my refuge.”

Thanksgiving can help remind your heart of who God is, rather than allowing fear to become the only thing you can see.

🕊️ 9. Ask the Holy Spirit to Help You

There may be times when fear is so strong that you don't know how to pray.

You can simply say:

“Holy Spirit, help me.”

Romans 8:26 reminds us that the Spirit helps us in our weakness.

You don't need a perfect prayer.

You don't need to know exactly what to say.

God understands your heart.

🔥 10. Choose Trust Over Fear

You may not be able to stop every fearful thought from entering your mind.

But you can choose where you take those thoughts.

Instead of allowing fear to control you, take your fear to God.

You can say:

“Lord, I choose to trust You even though I am afraid.”

That's faith.

Faith isn't always the absence of fear.

Sometimes faith is trusting God while your heart is still afraid.  My Ebay Faith Merch Store

🙏 A Prayer When You Are Afraid

Heavenly Father,

I come to You because I'm afraid. You know exactly what is troubling my heart, and You know every thought that is running through my mind.

Lord, I don't want fear to control me. Please give me courage, strength, wisdom, and peace.

Remind me that You are with me. When I feel alone, remind me that I can turn to You. When I don't know what to do, guide my steps.

Protect me and those I love. Help me make wise decisions and keep me from allowing fear to control my thoughts.

Father, I give You every worry and every “what if.” I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but You already know. Help me trust You with my future.

When I'm afraid, help me remember Your promises. When my thoughts are overwhelmed, bring Your peace into my heart.

Help me remember that You are greater than anything I'm facing.

I choose to trust You even though I am afraid.

Thank You for being my refuge, my strength, and my help.

In Jesus' name, Amen. ❤️
